Excellent vintage condition. Thus belonged to my mother, it was handed down from her mother & so on. My mother is Finnish.
Beautiful Kalevala Koru Scandinavian inspired brooch. This particular brooch was hand crafted in the 1940's in Helsinki, Finland. KK's early jewelry designs were viking inspired like this particular piece. It has a shield look to it with strategically painted verdigris accent color for the perfect patina.
The brooch measures 1 inch long by 2.25 inches wide and has a vintage "C" hook closure. It is marked Made in Finland (see close-up pic)
The history of the KK jewelry company is truly and homage to Finnish woman. The company was founded by women and it is owned by the Kalevala Women's Association. The company has always been managed by skillful women and many famous jewelry pieces have been designed by them - designers such as Kirsti Doukas and Marja Suna just to name a couple.
This brooch is a wonderful piece of history.
