Absolutely stunning Vintage 1920-1940s,100% Handstitched Multi-color Feed sack Yo-Yo diamond pattern. An Original Work of Art (hanging on a wall as shown) Cal King Size, approximately 102 x 132.
Reds, greens, pinks, blues, yellows, purple, orange, white, various patterned pieces. Lilac Diamond point edges of 3 and 4 yoyos (see photos).
Tiny circles of fabric were gathered up at the edges and sewed together to create a three-dimensional effect. During the Great Depression, Yo-Yo Quilts were most popular because they were made from small scraps of fabric, yo-yo quilts were more affordable to make and whatever fabric was on hand could be used., hence feed sacks. This piece has no backing and is more a coverlet than a quilt.
Unknown if true or fiction, historically though perhaps the most creative use of quilts occurred during the underground railroad. In the early and mid-nineteenth century, many slaves escaped from their masters via secret routes using special design patterns
