The Carnival of Venice, an ongoing annual event held in Venice, Italy since 1979, is world-famous for its elaborate masquerade masks and costumes. This long-nosed bird-beak mask, a popular style much associated with the Carnival, suggests the dualities of light and dark in human nature--one side of its 12" length is white, the other black, distressed to suggest age, and elaborately decorated with a flourish of fanciful, embossed gold-painted figures. It is backed with a decoupage of scored musical notes to suggest an opera theme. (Phantom of the Opera, anybody?) The mask measures 10" across its front, and is backed with cotton cloth and strings with which to tie on the mask. It is painted in acrylic watercolors to suggest gold gilt, and is an authentic Carnival mask, sure to be a hit at your own costume or Halloween party. Marked M
