VTG Chinese Porcelain Octagon Plate Qing Dynasty Da QianLong Nian Zhi. This plate is a homage to that era. The marking would lead me to believe it is circa 1947.
It features Gold/Cinnabar/Vermillion, and Navy colored hues, done with a raised and textured effect with the laquer. The colors are bold, rich, and vibrant.
No chips, cracks, or crazing. There are some irregularities in the paint, characteristic of hand painted items. The Gold Filigree Patterns resemble Andrea by Sadek Pottery. It is elegantly embellished with the gold filigree pattern and rimmed with bright gold.
If it was a Groom's plate, the 8 sides signify the 8 great celestials of Buddhism, and the gold rim indicates a wealthy new beginning. It would have been used to carry nuts and snacks at the wedding ceremony, although I believe now this plate is not suitable for food use, as the inks may be toxic. I would recommend it be used for decorative purpose only.
It measures 10" Diameter.
